Green Credits

A loyalty currency, deliberately not an offset

Credits accrue when you choose a product that scores below its category baseline. They buy things in our store. They do not remove carbon from the atmosphere, and we will never say they do.

The disclaimer, up front

Green Credits are a loyalty reward for choosing lower-impact products. They are not a carbon offset and do not represent a claim of emissions removal.

How credits are calculated

gis-formula
credits = max(0, round((category_baseline_co2e − net_co2e) × 8))
Credits are truncated at zero: a product at or above its baseline earns none.

The multiplier of 8 is a product decision, not a scientific constant. It exists to make the reward legible at the scale of a single gift. Because it is arbitrary, it is versioned with the methodology and any change is published in the version history.

What credits can and cannot do

They can

  • Reduce the price of a future order in our store.
  • Be pooled across a corporate account.
  • Be viewed as a full ledger with a reason on every entry.

They cannot

  • Be reported as a carbon offset, removal or reduction claim.
  • Be traded, transferred off-platform or converted to cash.
  • Be used to describe a product, order or company as carbon neutral.

Credit balances are issued and reported by the partner running the programme. This page documents the rules, not an individual balance.
